Tuk Tuk Chai, a couple's ready-to-drink Indian Street Tea, is full of excitement after being voted the most innovative product
A married couple from Wimbledon have won a prestigious food award for a unique blend of Indian street tea which they spent two years perfecting.
Alex and Rupesh Thomas created the ready-to-drink tea called Tuk Tuk Chai from a blend of black tea, whole spices, milk and sugar.
And now they have won the award for the most innovative product as part of competition staged by Lunch 2017! trade show.
Alex said: “It has been an amazing few months and we feel we have come so far in such a short time but we are adamant this is just the beginning.
“Rupesh introduced me to traditional brewed hot chai while we were travelling around India and I became obsessed with it almost right away.”
Charity worker Alex and mobile phone entrepreneur Rupesh saw a gap in the market and have spent the last two years creating and brewing the prefect Indian Chai.
“You simply cannot buy authentic ready-to-drink brewed Indian chai anywhere in the UK and it was important to me that if we launched it, it had to be absolutely authentic,"said Rupesh.
Tuk Tuk Chai is an infusion of black tea, whole spices, milk and sugar and comes in three different flavours- intense ginger, fiery masala and aromatic cardamom.
The gold award is one more major achievement for the couple after Harvey Nichols opted to store Tuk Tuk Chai at five of its stores since they launched in March 2017.
